Bottle Beach

The Bottle Beach (Haad Khuat) is one of the most picturesque beaches in Koh Phangan, reachable by taxi boat from Chaloklum. The Bottle Beach is especially popular among backpackers who miss the old, “real”, undeveloped Koh Phangan. Its wide spectacular shoreline with perfect crispy sand attracts swimmers as well, because of the excellent swimming conditions.

Although I’d visited the Bottle Beach twice, during the Boat Trip and during trekking, I didn’t stay there overnight. Now I have some regrets about it, because the Bottle Beach could have been just perfect for me: on one hand, it’s not too crowdie and almost lacks any facilities, so visitors from other beaches have only few reasons to come there. On the other, the beach features two restaurants and enough bungalows to make you feel, that you are not on a lonely island at all. Never mind, there’s always a next time.

For those who plan to stay at the Bottle Beach, I have three major recommendations:

1. Unless you are a very experienced and rigid trekker – remember that pride is a sin. The Bottle Beach trek features some steep trails and narrow rocky paths, so a local guide’s assistance may be necessary, especially in rainy days.
2. During the monsoon season, the bungalows are closed.
3. On the opposite side, during the high season, the bungalows are full and making a reservation in advance may be wise.
