Haad Yuan (Had Yuan)
Haad Yuan (Had Yuan)
There’s no doubt that Haad Yuan is an extraordinary beach. Located only 5 km from the around-the-clock partying at Haad Rin, it provides a unique ambience of remote beach and reminded my sister of the “old good Koh Phangan” she spent time at ten years ago. A couple of days ago she called me and ordered, “Don’t mention this beach in your blog. Every Joe and his dog will come around and destroy its unique spirit”. I argued, “Haad Yuan is not yours. It belongs to everyone. Don’t be like Sal from ‘The Beach’ movie”.
‘The Beach’ movie’s plot occurs at the hidden beach, inhabited by Western escapees. The movie was filmed near Koh Phi Phi, but according to the story, the Beach is supposed to be next to Koh Phangan. Sal was the Western community’s leader, who joined the locals in their attempt to prevent strangers from accessing the Beach.

My sister didn’t like the joke. She summarized shortly, “People destroy beaches”. After a second thought, I actually agree with her. So if you read this – please don’t visit Haad Yuan! (Just kidding…) please try to avoid changing things in Haad Yuan. It’s so perfect now. Resorts’ owners, who are apparently aware of its quality, try to prevent Haad Yuan’s further development, for example: there are no air conditioned bungalows, and consequently no children. There are no activities as well, unless seeing the evening movie is considered an activity. Haad Yuan is a kingdom of tranquility. If you are looking for action – you can always take the longtail (about 100 baht) to Haad Rin.
