Phaeng Waterfall National Park, Koh Phangan Eco Tour

The visit to Phaeng Waterfall National Park was part of our “Eco Nature” tour, mostly dedicated to the two main attractions: the mountain viewpoint and the Phaeng Waterfall. According to our guide, Kon, there are four waterfalls in the Park, and Phaeng is the most impressive one. We managed to visit (and photograph!) three of them, so you can form your own opinion. Having said that, everybody on the island told us that the waterfalls flow best after a heavy rain… But it was supposed to be a “low-season” in Koh Phangan.

To reach Phaeng Waterfall, we’d completed a 250m long walk in the jungle’s most sunny and friendly trail. The waterfall pool was good for refreshing, albeit too small for swimming. We really enjoyed sitting in the pool, underneath the waterfall, while the helicopter sized dragonflies were fluttering above our heads.

After taking the “Phaeng bath” we continued walking 200m farther up the trail, and got a fantastic mountain viewpoint. Before climbing this trail, I had a fantasy of climbing Khao Ra, the highest peak on Koh Phangan. After the climb, my only real fantasy was fixing my breath… And I promised myself to go to the gym for a year and come back to the island as a trekking hero.

By the way, if you are in more shape than I am, you should consider more serious trekking – notice that at Phaeng Waterfall National Park can be found in local guides, whose service costs about 500 baht a day.
