Thailand Snorkel Tours in Koh Phangan

Fortunately, my mom came back from her photo hike one minute before the boat had left the Bottle beach. Our next stop was Koh Ma – a small island connected to the northern part of Koh Phangan by a sand bar. This area is considered to be the best snorkeling area in Koh Phangan, offering a unique opportunity to explore the local marina life. The maximum sea depth in this area was 24 m, but as snorkeling – not scuba – divers, we settled for a modest 5 m depth.

As we had arrived at Koh Ma, our guide handed us snorkels and terrible masks that twisted our faces. In the beginning, my mom had refused to hop into the sea, but I have been pushing her with my hands and legs toward the water. She doesn’t have any regrets… Neither do I, although initially the snorkeling turned out to be one hell of a scary experience: as I had entered water, all sea fish started attacking me, tickling and scratching my skin. Very soon I found out, it happened due to the same good old guide: he threw small pieces of bread next to me, so the fish followed the bread… the guide had exploded with laughter.

Not funny at all! I threw the bread back at him and swam away from the “throwing range”. The marina life was fascinating: in the lucid water, one was able to sea every fish and coral reef.

As I felt tired of snorkeling and of all the green/black/blue/yellow sparkling swimming beasts, I decided to climb back to the boat. It wasn’t easy at all. Compared to the sea level, the seaboard was way too high, and I had no choice but drawing myself out to sea while grabbing the board. Despite of being a strong and trained ex- gymnast, I couldn’t do this. Fortunately, some guy on the board had mercy on me and drew me out.

At our way back to Haad Rin, our guide handed us beverages and pieces of fresh pineapple. It was a time of unbelievably beautiful tropical sunset, and until the evening fell at Koh Phangan I took some pictures… One picture is better than a thousand words. The way back was too long, probably due to my desire for to go to the bathroom. When the boat finally reached the Haad Rin seaport, the guide announced, “We’d just got to Koh Samui”. Everyone was surprised, even shocked, and the guide corrected himself, “We‘d just got Koh Phi Phi”. We lost our word, so the guide explained himself; “We’d just got the Koh [island] where everybody goes to make Pipi”.
