Than Sadet - Koh Phangan Boat Trip

The first stop on our boat trip journey was the Than Sadet (”Royal Stream”) Waterfall. This unique waterfall is located in Than Sadet National Park, accessed easily from the sea beach. Following our guide’s instructions, we got out the boat at the remote Than Sadet beach and continued walking into the warm, damp, suffocating and unbelievably beautiful jungle.

At first, we visited the monument established by King Rama the V. The King first arrived at Than Sadet in 1888, and revisited the same spot for more than 10 times. The present King Bumipol Aduldej, also known as the Great Rama IX, followed his footsteps and had also came to visit Than Sadet. We did the same thing and came back to Than Sadet Waterfall as a part of the “Eco Nature” tour…

Rather than being a single waterfall, Than Sadet is a long series of huge granite rocks, waterfalls and water pools, which extend about 3 km into the island. Some of us entered the first water pool enthusiastically, whereas I had preferred to observe them from a safe distance, sitting on a remote rock trying to hide myself using my bag from my mom’s camera attack.

The opposite end of the waterfall can be easily accessed by a fifteen-minute jeep ride. Walking in the jungle for extra five minutes, you can reach another water pool that is big enough to swim and even hop into the water.

On my way back to the jeep, I could hear some guys from the group laughing. Suddenly, something had fallen from the tree in front of me. I took a better look on that thing and found out… that it was a snake. At first glance I was frozen and scared, and instinctively jumped back. The laugh became stronger. I looked up and saw the old familiar guide who was sitting on the tree and holding yet another rubber snake.
